I'm skipping ahead on this 30 day shipping meme because [livejournal.com profile] alyse tangentially mentioned criminal minds and then someone reblogged a morgan x garcia gif-set and I was hit by a sledge-hammer of feelings about those two.

Day 27 - OTP That You Always Forget To Talk About

THE ENDLESS SEXUALLY CHARGED BANTER. THE GENUINE AFFECTION. THE STRAIGHT UP UST. THE FACT THAT HE IS CLEARLY JUST AS INTO HER AS SHE IS INTO HIM.

Ugh, I can’t with those two. They make me totally verklempt.

I forget about them for vast periods of time and then they're mentioned and I'm BOOM! right back in middle of a whole bunch of feelings.

Is anyone still watching criminal minds? Have those two finally had sex? Kissed? Because my god, did do those two need an epic kiss.

Because those two are (sidenote) the straight-up hottest male and hottest female on that show. Their adorable bi-racial babies would be the most epically cute things ever.

Day 28 - OTP With The Best Canon Story

I'm going to go with Han and Leia right here. Is any explanation needed? If so, just go watch the original Star Wars Trilogy.

I came across this great OTP meme from [livejournal.com profile] leobrat. I'm going to be doing it in chucks of a couple days at time, because I don't feel like posting each day when sometimes my answer is a single sentence.

I came across a meme on tumblr, which asked you to list your favorite characters from least cynical to most. And then I ended up having to retype the whole effing thing about three different times. So here it is, finally:

Male Characters:

Zuko> Han Solo > Clint Barton > Mal Reynolds > Jack Bristow

Female Characters:

Kate Bishop > Cameron > Faith Lehane > Natasha Romanoff > Adelle deWitt

I really liked thinking about this question ‘who is more cynical?’ but it actually wound up being way too easy.

The men are a slow, consistent slide from heart-of-gold dude with a shell of cynicism and anger to heart-of-gold-dude with a MUCH THICKER shell of cynicism and anger.

The female characters were pretty evenly divided between an optimist (Katie-Kate) and my violence, morally compromised ladies (Faith, Natasha, Adelle) right at Cameron, who I would argue is neither cynical nor optimistic.

[+] I have reached a heretofore unimagined level of adulthood; I now have matching crockery. Matching plates, matching bowl, matching appetizer plates, matching glasses, matching mugs.

[+] I have also followed [livejournal.com profile] latenightcuppa's lead, and had a friend change my tumblr password. It's been amazing tumblr, and I mean that truly. But I want to start writing again.

[+] However, prior to leaving tumblr, I noticed someone - no idea who, commenting about how Cutting Edge was one of their formative-as-fuck movies, so I watched that tonight with [livejournal.com profile] backtothesea a.k.a. the friend who locked me out of tumblr  (l lurve you too). It was, as promised, a deliciously '80's love story between an ice skating ice queen and the working class former hockey player. I feel that will either appeal to you or it won't. It had a very nice defrosting the ice queen arc and the male lead was delightfully doofy.

[+] This movie also got me thinking about what my formative-as-fuck movies are. Thus,

#the formative as fuck movies meme
#pick five movies that were pivotal to your personal development/media tastes/etc
#ideally movies you’ve watch multiple times
#now talk about them

[1] Anastasia and [2] Star Wars both contain scrappy, snarky princesses who have romances with scoundrels. I mean... just go watch the movies if you haven't already. And if you have (and come on, you totally have) come talk to me about them in the comments. [3] Indiana Jones & The Raiders of the Lost Ark. The ONLY good thing I will say about the fourth movie is that it married Indiana and Marion. THE ONLY THING.
[4] Titanic (I don’t feel this one was as developmentally relevant as other movies, but I owed it and rewatched it often for several years, so it goes on here. [5] Labyrinth is a movie that I can literally use to trace my personal development. The first time I watched it I hated Sarah because she was too similar to me (to be clear, too similar to me at ten, not fifteen) and hated that she and Jareth didn’t end up together and didn’t understand why they hadn’t. The second time I watched it I understood that Sarah was growing and changing as a character, and that’s why she’s such a brat at the beginning, and why she couldn’t stay yes to Jared when he asks her to at the end. I also didn’t get how wonderfully, gloriously, hopeful the ending is. Think about what a great, progressive, positive message that Labyrinth ends on; that you do not ‘grow out’ of magic but can keep it with you.

Also, for those of you playing at home, yes, I have always shipped the inappropriate fierce young girl with the older, more emotionally open man. (I shipped Nick and Cassie from the trailer, people. The trailer. I remember watching the trailer and going ‘I don’t think they want me to ship hot older guy with inappropriately young multi-colored hair girl, but I totally am.’)

[livejournal.com profile] natural_blue_26: Talk to me about princessess- in ancient lore, modern fiction, Disney or their OUaT counterparts. Which have you enjoyed, and which make you throw up your hands in dispair? Anything, really.

(Also, she mentioned that she had a wedding today? Is that your wedding? If so, congrats!)

I'm going to talk about my two favorite Princess Tropes.

First, The Badass Princess. By which I mean, Leia Organa, leader of the rebellion. (Kahlan and Snow are worthy daughters, imho.) Nothing like a clever, privileged, scrappy, princess who through circumstances and/or a desire for change, takes up arms. MY FIERCE LADIES IN WHITE. Which leads into my second trope, Fallen Princess. In my head, I have a slightly different definition than tv tropes - I'm thinking of the Princesses who lose everything (or almost everything) and then continue on. This overlaps with several badass princesses (especially Leia and Snow White) but the really key factor to me is the refusal to let misfortune prevent the princess from living a happy life (where badass princesses are often focused on political/social goals, fallen princesses are more focused on personal goals). For example, Caroline from 2 Broke Girls handled her loss of wealth "like a badass" and then joined forces with a friend to start a business. Another example is Aurora. I didn't have much emotional attachment to Aurora until the audience learns that after losing her True Love and having her entire world destroyed, she was intending to travel to a NEW WORLD to build a NEW LIFE for herself including NEW LOVE.* I just absolutely adore characters with that kind of motivation to make their lives better.

*There are many reasons why I'm sad that Philip is going to be rescued but the one relevant to this post is that I would absolutely love getting to see someone from FTL choose to come to Storybrooke/the modern world and then build a life there. Plus, I want the show acknowledge that it is possible for someone to have more than one True Love.

A post on [livejournal.com profile] mollivanders  got me thinking (again) about getting the original Star Wars, sans the stupid crap they added it. (And do my eyes deceive me, or is this it?)

On the objectification of lesbianism for anonymous, who asked "today there is a lot of music videos that seem to have a lot of girlxgirl action like christina aguilera's not myself tonight or even implied girlxgirl relationships such as honey B and lady gaga. While it is a good thing to see such freedom in sexuality (and advocacy of gay/lesbians) or even a celebration of women as seen in music videos, do you think that, to a certain extent, its just another way to subjugate women and a way for men to fantasize about women?"

[I find it really interesting that after most of these questions got asked but before I posted my response, I ended up talking about most of these things in other posts and comments. I guess suggestion really works. :-) ]
