that kind of luxe just ain't for us, we crave a different kind of buzz (Stephanie Brown & Cassandra Cain)

Summary: Batgirl and Black Bat versus the two most unobservant robbers in Gotham. The 'versus' implies that the robbers had even the faintest ghost of a chance, which, lol, no.

Of the tragic interactions that never happened in that hellscape known as DC comic's actual canon, is the conversation between Steph and Jason about their mothers. You can't tell me that there isn't some deliciously fraught potential considering that both their mother's were addicted to drugs, and Stephanie's mother managed to recover and get her life together, and Jason's didn't.

Now I'm wondering if Jason and Roy Harper ever had a conversation about drug addiction.

I will spare you the strange coils my thoughts follow, but I was imagining Stephanie and Damian on a team together, for pictionary, and how absolutely atrociously that would go. Because Steph understands how to play that game, so she’d just scrawl something out and Damian’s Artistic Sensibilities would be offended and he’d be too busy critiquing her skills to actually guess. And when Damian was drawing, he’d run out the clock and have, like, a circle and some beautifully done shading. Whoever they were playing against would win by default.

I had reblogged his text from last night before I had read any comics with Tim Drake and it was funny then, but it is beyond hilarious now:

Also, this rule!63 Damian/Stephanie fanart came across my dash:

and oh my god YES.

Give me haughty, violent, half-arab assassin princess x cheerful, indefatigable college guy!

I did not know how desperately I needed this until now.

It’s like five billion of my favorite tropes! Violent girl x emotionally open guy! Older guy/younger girl! Defrosting the ice queen! *makes grabby hands at the universe*

So, I just read Stephanie's run as Robin, War Games, and the couple of issues that have her coming back and I'm about ready to crawl into a fetal position and sob.

I just want to point out this panel:

Steph's done this in Robin comics too - automatically understood the dynamics of a criminal enterprise - and it just struck me as a unique skill that I've never seen people mention when they talk about Steph.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] latenightcuppa, come talk to me about Steph's hallucinatory conversations with Cassandra, cause that was trope-y as fuck.

Stephanie Brown will exist in the New 52.

I don't even know how to process this news. Gabzilla's tags pretty much sum up my feelings.

Also, DC.... you wanna tell me where Cassandra Cain is?

BUT ALSO, BLACK WIDOW GETS A SOLO TITLE.

Dear Yuletide Author,

First of all, let me sincerely say that I requested fandoms and characters I absolutely love, so please do not feel at all wedded to my insane optional details. Ignore them all entirely, pick and choose what works for you, optional details are optional.

If you're looking for more insight into general tropes that I like, check out my tag of bulletproof kinks. (Short list: banter, sex against walls, competency, characters respecting each other, tragic backstories, biting/love marks.)

Things I do not like: noncon, ladies needed to be saved, ladies being treated disrespectfully by the narrative, bleak and hopeless endings.

I downloaded all of Steph's comics appearances and I've had a chance to skim through the War Games arc (which was upsetting for all the obvious reasons) and read some of the early Robin issues, which are very fun, but also upsetting for none of the obvious reasons, i.e., every time Tim tells Stephanie to stop superhero-ing, I want to slap him, and I hate how she's clearly ridiculously into him, and he's all,  'no, no, YES, no,' about it.

[livejournal.com profile] 12_12_12 has talked several times about, basically, Rule 63-ing particular characters and tropes and seeing how they play.

Okay, you know the trope of the two guys who are both interested in the same girl and one of the guys basically gives his blessing to the other guy or tells the girl she should be with the other guys?

Well, at the end of Stephanie Brown’s Batgirl run, there is a gender reversed example of this, and it turns out that it is an annoying trope regardless of the genders*. Because the vertex person (typically the girl) is basically having other people tell him/her who she/he should be dating, while the person doing the telling has skin in the game (and is usually withholding information, to boot).

ADDITIONALLY, with these kinds of situations, there is usually a sense that one of the two relationship options is objectively a better choice, and that the vertex person should choose the rationally best choice. And that is just not how feelings work.

*There were also other reasons why this particular example didn't work.
