[+] I have about 150 belated comments to answer, which I'm going to try and take a whack at this weekend. Sorry for the delay.

[+] Not that the above is going to prevent me from

[+] The finale of Teen Wolf was leaked/released by iTunes, so I watched that, so warning, I'm likely going to be reblogging graphics from the finale (with the tag 'spoilers').

[+] In other tumblr news, if you’re following me on tumblr and aren’t a fan of Stephanie Brown, I apologize. I’ve already crashed Chrone once when I had too many tabs of Stephanie Brown badassery open. Feel free to blacklist ‘comics’ if you’d like. I apologize for not having something but specific, but I tag old-school on tumblr.

Some thoughts about the unsinkable Stephanie Brown:

  • Despite the fact that it’s clear that the people at the top hate Stephanie Brown and also aren’t so hot on Cassandra Cain (I love that Cassandra passed the mantle of Batgirl on to Steph, but Cass left Gotham why?) the fact that artists keep leaving Stephanie-referencing easier eggs gives me hope that not everyone at DC is a sack of dicks.

  • I really, really love that Steph has a superhero identity (Spoiler) that is separate from all the legacy malarkey of the Bats. To me, that really drives home the fact that no matter what, Steph is always going to be a superhero, and I like that that’s something that isn't connected to anyone besides herself (and thus isn't subject to other people's opinions the way legacy titles are.)

gacked from [livejournal.com profile] portions_forfox:

I think I'm going to reprise a meme from ye ages past, because I'm bored and I like to make fandom-y lists and also, as the title would suggest, I like to ship.

(I'm going to be kind of throwing ships onto these lists, in an attempt to shake things up and maybe mention ships I don't often do. But don't worry, some of my old stand-bys are here.)

ALL THE SHIPS. ALL OF THEM )

So, yeah, come talk to me about these ships.

I have been going back and forth on whether or not I'm going to watch City Of Bones in the theaters and whether or not I'm going to read the books but I think this clip decided me in favor (of at least investing $11.50 and two hours.)

Also, it made me miss The Sarah Connor Chronicles TREMENDOUSLY. Also, Lena Hadley just gets more and more gorgeous as time goes by.

First of all a rec:

No Dawn, No Day, Stephanie Brown/Damian Wayne

(Read the pdf of the main story first, then if you desire, look at the side stories.)

(There are two endings, btw, and both are awesome for different reasons, but one involves character death.)

I was so thrilled to stumble upon this fic. It’s long, it’s character driven, it’s GLORIOUS.

It takes all the threads of Stephanie Brown’s stories – basically, all the ways that DC screwed her over (the not-really-a-Robin thing, Bruce-Wayne’s-Batman’s lack of trust in her, the teen pregnancy) and resolves them in natural ways that feel organic to the story. It hit me in the middle of the story that, without feeling forced or preachy, the author was gracefully acerbating and then healing all of this trauma that Stephanie carries with her.

She also deals with the toxic Batman legacy vis-a-vis Damian Wayne and Jason Todd as well. I’m not 100% sold on her Jason Todd characterization, but especially towards the end, there are some fantastic character beats for him.(Milkshakes! Stephanie’s ringtone is “Walking on Sunshine”! He answers the phone in the middle of a gunfight!)

Other things that I loved about this story:

  • Damian being head-over-heels in love and terrible at expressing it!

  • An adorable kitten!

  • An epic Pretty Woman-esque moment, followed by a truly epic verbal bitchslapping!

  • Damian being the most amusing brat ever!

  • Great upgrade of Harley Quinn!

Now, it must be said, I get the majority of my opinions about the Batfamily second hand (but I trust y’alls taste, so).

That is one of the MANY reasons why I think it’s a TERRIBLE idea for DC to try and reboot Batman with Batman vs. Superman.

Besides being a not-great idea for a movie in the first place, what DC really needs to do is create a Batman (and a movie-verse) that can believably have a Justice League. Which is why a trilogy of movies about the Batfamily could be so brilliant.

First, a Batman who is, by definition, interacting with another superheroes logically leads to a world that could support a Justice League. Secondly, a Batman who has a Batfamily (especially a Batfamily dealing with the weight and hypocrisies of his legacy) is so much more interesting than some square-jawed dude brooding. Third OH MY GOD HAVE YOU NOT PAID ATTENTION TO THE DRAMATIC POTENTIAL DRIPPING OFF THESE CHARACTERS? Dick Grayson, who both broke broke away from and struggles to be his father-figure! Jason Todd, who Came Back Wrong and with a morality that 85% of theater-goers are going very as 100% valid vigilante justice! The unsinkable Stephanie Brown, who is a hero because she refuses to be anything less!

(Sidenote, think about how visually perfect Stephanie Brown would be in Gotham’s night – her blonde hair as this light in the shadows, the visual representation of her innate optimism and the triumph of the human spirit. Awww, and now I’m imagining a conversation in a dark room between Stephanie and Jason, where she’s sitting in the stripped light that’s coming in from the broken blinds and he’s leaning against the wall, the only thing visible the glint of his eyes, the glow of his cigarette, and that shock of white hair.)

(Sorry, Timothy Drake and Cassandra Cain, I do not have opinions about you.)

Basically, DC. MAKE ME A BATFAMILY MOVIE.

In other news, all the speculated casting for Batman I’ve heard has been terrible. So, so terrible. I know! It’s time for a round of Batman-verse fan-casting. And…. go.

First images of the Peggy Carter short.

OH MY FUCKING GOD. DID YOU SEE THAT POSTER? HOW IT LOOKS LIKE A FUCKING 1940'S ADVENTURE NOVEL?

IS PEGGY FUCKING CARTER ACTUALLY GOING TO BE HUNTING NAZIS POST-WWII IN SOUTH AMERICA LIKE I DREAMED?

I'm all current with Captain Marvel, if anyone wants to chat about how awesome Carol is in the comments.

Also, does it both crack anyone else up and then make them sad how hard Jessica Drew tries to present as Totally Normal?

Finally, I want to point out how much I love the bottom right image. I completely dig how Jessica so poised against the wall, like she's about to dart away, and Carol is looking both casual and like she could go for a bit of the rough and tumble.

I read this month’s Avengers + X-men because Jessica Drew, and it answered something I’ve been wondering, which was how Jessica’s pheromones affected (presumably heterosexual) women? Answer: by making other women dislike her. (I would strongly argue that there is also a psychological element at work with that, e.g. as in women who consciously or unconsciously believe that other women are competition react particularly badly to Jess because we’ve seen her have positive relationships with Kitty Pryde, Natasha Romanoff, CAROL DANVERS and sort-of Bobbi Morse.)

But Jess! My baby! Why is everything so hard for you?

Learning that makes me SO glad for the epic friendship between Jess and Carol, which is just so epically supportive and awesome. AND it makes me ship Carol/Jess even harder, because Jess COULDN’T make Carol want her, which is always a plus when you have a character who can manipulate emotions like that. There is always the question of whether or not the other person in the relationship was manipulated into being in it.

Basically Carol +/ Jess = AWESOMENESS.

This kpop video is FIERCE AS FUCK:

Also, check out this Sarah Conner Chronicles vid, We Used To Wait. It's an amazing look at Sarah and Jesse's badassery and isolation.

And it reminded me that [livejournal.com profile] coffeesuperhero was talking about a gender-reversed gotham and suggested Lena Headly as Batman. ALL THE YES IN THE WOLRD.

A year ago I listed my top ten favorite male and female characters, in order.

It was brutal.

And even at the time, I knew that there was no way that list was going to stay static.

So may I present, Redbrunja’s Top 10 Male and Female characters, 2013.

(To save time, I’m only providing commentary for characters who are either new to the list, or have moved up or down it in noteworthy ways.)

Drumroll, please. )

Coming up, Top Ten Pairings and Top Five Friendships.

So, apparently we’re going to be getting a Peggy Carter short? I’m really excited. Please have her hunting Nazis post movie. PLEASE.

I mean, I have my complaints about the writing in the Captain America movie, especially in regards to Peggy, but it fills me with delight that Hayley Atwell and Marvel had enough people invested in that character and asking after her that Marvel decided it was a good movie to make a short starring her. Seriously, I’m getting misty.

Per [livejournal.com profile] qualapec’s instructions, I started reading Avengers Assemble with issue 9, and loved it. I got to this scene:

Avengers Assemble 9-13 )

Also, can someone please help me find a fic? It had Jess responding to Clint being a cheating dick by getting drunk (I distinctly remember tequila) and having sex with a totally awesome lady. I THOUGHT that she had hooked up with Carol but I read through all two pages of their ship-fic on A03 (ohmygod, such a hardship) and couldn’t find it.

Help.

I also read Spiderwoman Origins and can only express my feelings in gif form:
