metisket '“Havoc,” she said abruptly. “That’s right. You’re not using your legs, are you?”
He wasn’t sure whether to be pissed off about the way she’d put that or not. Not using them. Like he’d just woken up one day and decided he and his legs were quits.
On the other hand, there wasn’t a bit of pity there, which was nice. Well, there wouldn’t be, would there? Automail mechanic.
He let it go. He was lousy at being mad, anyway.
“Yeah, the legs are pretty useless,” he said.
She tipped her head to the side and peered into the car. “So how’s your car set up?”
Right. As far as she was concerned, his legs were irrelevant. Clearly the point
here was how he’d fixed up his car
.'This is the first Winry/Havoc I've read with manga!characterization, and I really like the glimpses we get of Jean's life after getting paralyzed and how Jean being in a wheelchair isn't glossed over or treated as Oh My God The End of The World (it's kind of what I wished season 2 of Dark Angel had been).
metisket writes Winry excellently - she'd totally tsunadre without being a cliche, and I love the way that other relationships Winry has aren't forgotten. What
metisket also writes excellently are men head-over-heels in love (if you haven't read her Soul/Maka,
do that now) and this fic is no exception. Jean's adoration just shines though each word.
